The France pictures are up :)

I am back in the United States. I’m not quite back home yet (that’s Sunday) and I don’t have jet lag, but I’m still recouperating from my trip. I’ll post pictures and stories relatively soon, but right now I’m enjoying doing not much. This morning I surfed the internet for longer than I have in around two years. I’m contemplating putting in the Dune DVD (”I will kill you!!“) and vegging out a little more.
My general impressions:
Paris was cool (although not literally), but what people say about the French was certainly true in my experience.
Being in places where so much history happened was shocking and surreal. I stood in the room where French peasants dragged Marie Antoinette from to take her to the guillotine. The only place I’ve been that even remotely had a similar affect on me in the States was Washington D.C.
Switzerland has some of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen.
Flying is overrated.
Everyone should have air conditioning.

Hello from Switzerland! Thank jebus the people we’re staying with have broadband internet. I was seriously going through withdrawals. In my absence my grades came and and although there wasn’t really any doubt, I officially graduated.
Although I had a great time in Paris, I’m glad we moved on. There were lots of people, many of whom did not like Americans and many of whom came from a culture where standing in line was an unfamiliar concept. On the plus side, I saw the Louvre (on the last day even though our hotel was a block away), Notre Dame, the MuseĆ© d’Orsay, Versailles (no wonder the peasants were pissed), the Eiffel Tower (second floor only), the Lido show, the Arc de Triomphe (at night and during the day), the MuseĆ© Rodin, we took a cruise down the Seine, I ate the best onion soup of my life, drank many bottles of wine, drank much cappucino and even more Orangina (et sa pulpe!), and generally marveled at a place where things were really old. (I will have more stories later.)
By yesterday afternoon, I was exhausted. It was pretty warm there on most days and I’m not used to walking around quite so much. It’s warm here in Switzerland too, but it’s very peaceful.
Well, I’m going to go relax now. More later …

Given the fact that we will be traveling great distances in the coming days, I though about the DVD rental that Kimberly and I saw in the Denver airport in November. The service is called InMotion, and they are currently in about 20 major airports. You rent the player and a disc or two in one airport, and drop them off when you arrive. Genius!
However, they are not in all airports, and neither of the ones that we will be travelling through this month. But, you can have the player shipped to you, and then return it via FedEx when you’re done. More genius!
It is a little pricey, but if you know that you would never use a portable player again, it’s not too bad.
