Keith Olbermann had this to say on the five year anniversary of 9/11/01. It’s an eight minute commentary, which I have copied word-for-word below.

Kudos to Mr. Olbermann for once again displaying the courage to speak up for what he feels is right and just.

Half a lifetime ago, I worked in this now-empty space. And for 40 days after the attacks, I worked here again, trying to make sense of what happened, and was yet to happen, as a reporter.

All the time, I knew that the very air I breathed contained the remains of thousands of people, including four of my friends, two in the planes and — as I discovered from those “missing posters” seared still into my soul — two more in the Towers.

And I knew too, that this was the pyre for hundreds of New York policemen and firemen, of whom my family can claim half a dozen or more, as our ancestors.

I belabor this to emphasize that, for me this was, and is, and always shall be, personal.

And anyone who claims that I and others like me are “soft,”or have “forgotten” the lessons of what happened here is at best a grasping, opportunistic, dilettante and at worst, an idiot whether he is a commentator, or a Vice President, or a President.

However, of all the things those of us who were here five years ago could have forecast — of all the nightmares that unfolded before our eyes, and the others that unfolded only in our minds — none of us could have predicted this.

Five years later this space is still empty.

Five years later there is no memorial to the dead.

Five years later there is no building rising to show with proud defiance that we would not have our America wrung from us, by cowards and criminals.

Five years later this country’s wound is still open.

Five years later this country’s mass grave is still unmarked.

Five years later this is still just a background for a photo-op.

It is beyond shameful.

Puppy Bowl II

I haven’t seen any ads for it, but I did find this update on Animal Planet’s website.

They have the photos and bios of the 14 puppy participants, and a sneak peak video of the kitten half time show! With a float!

We are SO getting this on DVD.

Interesting read… I especially like this:

Those of you who know my work at all know about Ender’s Game. I jealously protected the movie rights to Ender’s Game so that it would not be filmed until it could be done right … I’ll tell you this right now: If Ender’s Game can’t be this kind of movie, and this good a movie, then I want it never to be made

So you bloggy readers, if you haven’t seen Serenity, then you must now go. Orson Scott Card commands you.

Woo hoo!

From the article:

A federal judge struck down a move by the Bush administration to ease logging restrictions in the Northwest, saying the government failed to consider the effect on rare plants and animals.

WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

You go, Marsha Pechman!

Take that, environmentally-insensitive Bush administration!

Apparently, Gary Trudeau is catching some flack over a nickname he gave to “Hot” Karl Rove, and some newspapers that run the daily strip are either editing or pulling yesterday’s and today’s strips altogether.

The nickname…?

Turd Blossom.

That’s AWESOME!

Vegas, Baby! Vegas!

I just want to say, for the entire world to see, that Kimberly and Jim T. kick ALL kinds of ass. I realize this is obvious to most of the living, breathing population, but it still needed to be said.

That is all.

Happy Birfday Kimberly!

Seeing as it is my honey’s birthday, we will now examine the historical significance of this day:

Things that happened BK (Before Kimberly):

1812 - Russians establish Fort Ross north of San Francisco. (Russian colonists wake up the next morning after a hellacious shindig with the native Hispanic population, and learn the meaning of Montezuma’s Revenge. A new a new word is created, понос, which roughly translates into “Oh my GOD, my ass!” ).

1880 - First electric streelight installed in Wabash, Indiana. (02/03/1880 - First electric streetlight replaced after drunken monkey crashes into it while driving a horse-and-buggy).

1882 - James Joyce is born.

1923 - Leaded gas goes on sale in Dayton, Ohio.

1933 - MGM fires Buster Keaton for excessive drinking. (He was the first person to read the original Gigli script).

1949 - U.S. Secretary of State Dean Acheson rejects proposal calling for Harry Truman to travel to Russia and meet with Joe Stalin. (Stalin reportedly drank a liter of vodka and wimpered in the corner of a room in the Kremlin all night while clutching a picture of Bess Truman).

1949 - The singer formerly known as the writer formerly known as the actor formerly known as Brent Spiner is born. (Shortly after his birth, his doctor remarked how much he looks like a Frenchman who met Mark Twain at the end of the 19th century).

1962 - First U.S. Air Force plane crashes in South Vietnam.

Things that happened AK (After Kimberly):

1979 - Sid Vicious dies of herion overdose, one day after being released on bail.

1982 - Late Night with David Letterman premieres on NBC after the The Tonight Show. (Letterman begins the show by walking up to the audience and introducing two female audience members as “Uma” and “Oprah”. This bit make much more sense when he hosts the Oscars 13 years later).

And I couldn’t resist this… I will eat your soul!
