Need to overhaul the house and clean May 20-21
I present my Masters project on May 26th (and need to turn 15 page paper accompanying project)
My Gender and Globalization Mass Comm project & paper is due May 31 (which I have a plan for, but haven’t actually started)
Take home essay for above class due June 4
Family starts coming into town June 5 (theoretically)
Set up gallery show on June 8
Graduation on June 9
Gallery show on June 9 after graduation
Tear down gallery show on June 10
Leave for D.C. on June 12
Leave for Paris on June 14th

Time certainly does fly. If you would like a postcard from Paris or Switzerland, email me your address. I’ll probably be on a couple of times until Wednesday evening.

First Day! post

Today went pretty well. I had three meetings, two of which were conference calls to talk about system issues with some of the user groups.

I talked with my boss who wants me to head up the QA initiative on a new patch, which the project’s director would like to have in place by the middle of June. It’s a foreseeable goal, but it’s going to involve a lot of regression testing.

Go me!

Pastafarian Bible

Remember Flying Spaghetti Monster? The creator just got an $80,000 advance to write the Pastafarian Bible.

Update: Here’s a much better article explaining what was going on. Apparently it was partially a cultural misunderstanding.

Bleh.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Parents who were charged with child abuse last August have been exonerated and reunited with their children.

Charbel Hamaty was charged with sexually assaulting his newborn son, and Teresa Hamaty was arrested for taking sexually explicit pictures.

The couple describe the ordeal as a “nightmare” that started over a roll of film that Charbel Hamaty dropped off at a north Raleigh Eckerd.

The photo that raised alarms shows a naked Kristoff, now 16-months-old, getting a kiss from his father on the belly button, Teresa Hamaty said.

When the photos were shown to the police, the couple was arrested, and Kristoff was put in protective custody, while his half-sister, Victoria, was handed over to her birth father.

Teresa Hamaty was released on bond, but wasn’t allowed contact with her children for months.

Charbel Hamaty spent six months in prison before the charges were dropped because of a report submitted by an expert saying there was no criminal intent in the photos.

The couple said they are happy to be reunited with their children and to leave their legal troubles behind them.

And we have cable modem. I’m working on a post but it’s really, really long. And right now I have to go pick up my car! She’s here! Yay!

GRE update

Well it’s over. And it was relatively painless. I got 260 points over what I needed. Here’s the biggest kick in the pants of all time: I got 80 points higher in the math section than the verbal section. The English/Linguistics major in me is appalled. I find out my essay score in 2 to 3 weeks.

Whew! Now I just have to apply to grad school.

Studying Update

In the ten years since I last took an algebra class I have yet to use the quadratic formula, and I don’t know why they expect me to care about it now.

Go GoDaddy!

I was thinking about switching from GoDaddy for webhosting, however, as they are suing VeriSign for their latest shennanigans, I’ll stay.

Backstory here, here, and here.

Dear Ms. [removed],

Thank you for writing to JetBlue so that I have an opportunity to apologize to you personally and set the record straight.

Most importantly, JetBlue has never supplied, nor will supply, customer information to the Transportation Security Administration, or any government agency, unless we are required to do so by law — not for CAPPS II or for any other purposes, whatsoever.

However, I regret that, more than a year ago, we responded to an exceptional request from the Department of Defense to assist their contractor, Torch Concepts, with a project regarding military base security. This project had no connection with aviation security or the CAPPS II program and no data files were ever shared with the Department of Defense or any other government agency or contractor.

We provided limited historical customer data including names, addresses and phone numbers. It DID NOT include personal financial information, credit card information, or social security numbers.

Torch further developed this information into a presentation, without JetBlue’s knowledge, for a Department of Homeland Security symposium. We regret that this presentation included the personal information of one customer — although the customer’s name was not used. Again, we had no knowledge of this presentation until two days ago and we were deeply dismayed to learn of it.

The sole set of data in Torch’s possession has been destroyed; no government agency ever had access to it. With Torch’s help, we are continuing to make every effort to have the Torch presentation with the one customer?s information removed from the internet.

This was a mistake on our part and I know you and many of our customers feel betrayed by it. We deeply regret that this happened and have taken steps to fix the situation and make sure that it never happens again.

I am saddened that we have shaken your faith in JetBlue but I assure you personally that we are committed to making this right.

Sincerely,

David Neeleman

Chief Executive Officer

Battle Cry

Remember the one where we were trying to figure out what good angry exclamations we’d use?

Here, apparently, is a tailor made battle cry just for me:

“Blood and souls for my dark lord! I desecrate like a four-year-old on a sugar rampage!!”
