Take that!

Here’s an interesting way to fight spam. A screen saver that eats up spammer bandwidth.

A good idea, or a really bad one?

Here’s the /. breakdown (hee!) and the MeFi breakdown.

This came in a spam promising a free Dell Laptop:

This is a Postmodern Story of the Day:

(I’m loving the way you walk with me so quietly, contentedly.) I don’t know how he found that place. (I’d seen something really weird. : ) I can never describe the walk back to my truck.

I’d seen many of the same things I’ve seen before. I’ll tell you what happened next. What are we going to do tonight? I asked. How embarrassing.

But this was a long road, and should I walk down it, I might never come back. Love what you do and do what you love He wanted to know more. Sounds good to me, I said.

Sounds good to me, I said. Are you getting pieces of this? This is what I like, I’d tell myself. I can never describe the walk back to my truck. (I’m loving the way you walk with me so quietly, contentedly.) YmVybDIyMkB5YWhvby5jb20=

I’ve added this to my sidebar links:

WWW Robots (also called wanderers or spiders) are programs that traverse pages in the Web by recursively retrieving linked pages. When a spammer’s robot visits your website, blog, discussion forum, etc, they will check all the pages that you link to for email addresses.

Now you can fight back against their robots!

All you have to do is link to this page so that whenever a spammer’s robot scans your page, they will be sucked into this one.

Silly spam

I’m enjoying the technique spam evil-doers are using to get passed filters: the art of misdirection through random subjects and crazy spelling. For example:

From: “Victoria Stewart” < ghcqtkifzr@aol.com >
To: xxxxxxxxx@yahoo.com
Subject: classificatory
Date: Fri, 30 Jan 2004 02:00:39 +0500
