I’ll admit I’ve felt varying degress of persecution for being fat over the years, but something like this falls into my path and reminds me that it’s more about being a woman. We keep getting the message based on current social/political fashion (whatever that may be): You and your body are not good enough.
On the plus side, the website that contributed that ad from the 1890’s, Body Positive, is wonderful. Some interesting articles include:
Dieting Detox: Taking Back Your Choices from the Food Police - How to break the cycle of dieting and reactive eating and tune into what you really want and need.
Making a Case for Size Acceptance - Arguments that dispell myths about being “overweight” and help move towards size acceptance.
Body Positive explores taking up occupancy inside your own skin, rather than living above the chin until you’re thin. It is a set of ideas that may help you find greater well-being in the body you have. One of these ideas is to define “healthy weight” not from a generic height/weight chart or even arbitrary Body Mass Index cut-offs, but rather as the weight your body is when you are living a reasonable life.
Enjoy!
