Just as I pulled up to the house today, I noticed the odometer had just hit 19,999. It seems like I just picked Pepe up a couple of months ago, not a couple of years ago. I’ve been thinking all night about how much my life has changed in the last 745 days:

1. I saved the world from the horror known as ‘Creed’.

2. I turned 30 years old.

3. My baby got accepted to Grad School.

4. We moved to Colorado.

5. I was hired and subsequently laid off by a local property management company, which led me to find a GREAT job.

6 There is no 6.

7. My honeysweetiepielovemuffin turned 30.

8. I forgot what 8 was for.

9. I got married to a woman I both love and adore. And taunt. Next to the birth of my future children, and when I finally get the animatronic-coin-operated-Kimberly-poking-you-in-the-eye complete, this will be the happiest day of my life.

10. We added a fourth cat to the mix. I don’t know what it is about her, but Chloe just wrecks me, she is so cute.

11. I celebrated my one year wedding anniversary.

12. I watched my wife present her Master’s Project.

13. I watched as my lovely wife graduated from Grad School. And cried.

14. I drove my baby to the airport so that she could visit Paris and Switzerland with hermoM. (It’s where the history comes from!)

What an interesting 2 years. I love my life. I love my wife. I love LIFE.

Wheeeeee!

I just got a voicemail from a company that I had sent a resume to about a month ago… it sounds like they want to bring me in for an interview! The original job posting is no longer online, but being the Smarty McSmarty-Pants that I am, I had entered all of the relevant information into a spreadsheet, including some notes.

The funny part is that when the Little Woman and I went to check the address of the corporate offices, it comes up about 3 miles from the new house! Take THAT, LA!

Now we just sit and play the waiting game… and see which comes first — our stuff, or the interview. If it’s the interview, I’m going to need to go buy some nice clothes, since all of my “work” clothes are packed.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Oh screw it

I was going to type a big long entry about the trials and tribulations of our trip, but if I actually did that it would take a long time to get posted (read: never) so I thought I would make a quickie just so I could start blogging again. It’s felt like a vacation here with no stuff and not a whole lot to do except sit on the floor and remember to buy a knife next time we go to the store so I don’t have to rip apart a chicken breast with my bare hands again.

Move week was probably about as hectic as you’d expect. Lots of packing and Fuck It boxes filled with anything within reach. The day we left was busy and weird and frantic and we ended up leaving at 9 p.m. instead of 8. The passenger side had no leg room as it was full of the cds we brought with us but didn’t really listen to and my purse which had everything that we couldn’t fit anywhere else in it. We cleared out a lovely space for the cats in the back of the car and packed the rest of it almost to the roof and they all chose to sit on top of the stuff instead of the space we cleared for them. Of course.

We’re here

And we have cable modem. I’m working on a post but it’s really, really long. And right now I have to go pick up my car! She’s here! Yay!

Update

Thanks to everyone who left happy words for the move! Our stuff successfully made it off yesterday with very few hitches. The only major inconvienance that may occur (aside from the lack of a transporter which is a huge inconvienance, I mean it’s 2004! Why can’t they rearrange my particles yet?) is that the salesman’s estimate of when our stuff will arrive in the Denver Metro Area and the actual moving guy’s estimate were not in agreement. A trip to Target for auto-inflating air beds is in our near future.

I am right now sitting at Rita’s computer (who generously donated half of her bed so I wouldn’t have to sleep on the floor) typing this and listening to her make me orange-cranberry scones — Woohoo!!

All we have left to do today is get rid of the crap we didn’t want to ship, clean up a bit, pack the car, drug the cats and Go! Insert maybe a nap and definitely lots of coffee and there is my day. We have an appointment to get cable modem on Monday so hopefully I’ll be back online then to let everyone know how the 16+ hour car ride with three neurotic cats and lots of David Sedaris CDs went.

A humble request

Will everyone out there in internet land pause a moment and think really happy thoughts about our move? My ability to do so is cracking under the pressure and I would appreciate a little help.

Thanks!!!

Mwaah!

… There is much packing going on. When I’m not busily packing, I’m frantically procrastinating. When I’m not procrastinating or packing, I’m wondering how someone could pack for two weeks and still have an apartment that doesn’t look even remotely packed.

Today we dropped my car off at the shipping depot, and I miss her already. It’s odd not having a car there at my disposal. I miss my car more than my job and I’m getting my car back in 12 days.

The movers are theoretically coming on Friday. I say theoretically because there’s a two day window and it’s either Friday or Saturday but we won’t know until Wednesday. I truly hope it’s Friday because we have move-out cleaners coming to spiff up the place so we get can out of here by 8 p.m. on Saturday.

I’m sure everything will go smoothly, and the few “wrinkles” that we’ve encountered so far were sent merely to test my dedication to this move. (Wrinkles like someone getting our joint account number and spending all the money in it. Or finding out that “everything is included” with the movers doesn’t actually mean “everything” is included. Stuff like that.)

So yeah. This will probably be my last blog post until we get cable modem set up in Colorado (although other authors are more than welcome to pitch in!! * hint *). I may pop in, but odds are definitely against it. One can’t leave proof of one’s procrastination, can one?

Also

In all the hullaballoo of moving and such, I completely forgot that today is my 6 year anniversary at my company. To celebrate, I logged on to our retirement website and visited my 100% vested retirement plan.

Woohoo!!

And the verdict is three boxes. Holy cow.

Now I just have to get over the surreal feeling of white walls and dust looking at me instead of cows and comics and art.

Tomorrow, I throw away ALL MY FILES!!! Mwooohahahahahaha!!!

We’re back in town. The trip went well, I think and we’re putting in our application today for the before-mentioned townhouse. * crosses fingers *

As if a nod from the universe, when we got home my grad school welcome packet was in the mail, and an email message from campus parking told me I received my first choice selection in the restricted parking lot lottery. Instead of having to trek all the way across campus from the general lots, I will be in a restricted, covered lot that is directly across the street from where most of my classes will be held. BOO-YAH!!! Thank god I’m hyper about details and logistics and found out that there was a lottery in the first place and got my name in on time.

All that’s left to do now is sit and wait for the owner of the townhouse to call me gushing with her good fortune to have us as tenants. Well, that and packing and such. Pesky details.
